The short film STOP PLASTIC of Carducci School (ICCS Pestalozzi - Florence) won the first prize of the Social Film Festival ArTelesia 2019, in the “School & University” category. The short film is the final product of “Plastic Free School and City” project, ideated and coordinated by Maria Vittoria Cangialosi, Professor and Ecotoxicologist, with Greenpeace and WWF collaboration.
The short film STOP PLASTIC has the aim to sensitize schools, citizens, politicians and multinationals and reports the main actions of the children: the meeting with the Environmental Assessor Alessia Bettini, the Vice Dean Mina De Luca and the Trustee Monica Moretti organized to discuss the proposals "Plastic Free School and City", written in collaboration with Greenpeace and WWF; the signature of the Dean Carla Busconi on the "Plastic Free School" document; the “Plastic Free” strike on March 29; the filming in the WWF Oasis Stagni di Focognano (Florence); the meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Florence Cristina Giachi and the Assessor Alessia Bettini at Palazzo Vecchio and the public talk during the “Festival Nazionale dell’Economia Civile” (organized by Federcasse, NeXt Nuova Economia per Tutti and SEC Scuola di Economia Civile). In the short film there is also a fiction about a manager of a multinational company that produces mineral water and soft drinks: the manager will prefer the glass bottles (returnable) instead to the plastic ones, after understanding that the future of his son (who joins the strike) depends also on his business actions.
The first scenes are emblematic: the purchase of plastic bottles for mineral water and soft drinks by a manager, a symbol of the multinationals as shown by the different bottles and contents on the meeting table. Among the scenes in the short film the spectacular opening of the huge letters “STOP PLASTIC” by Greenpeace volunteers of Florence, directed by Giuseppe Ungherese (Greenpeace Italia). Other movie location was the stunning WWF Oasis Stagni di Focognano, directed by Dr. Carlo Scoccianti, who collaborated in the project showing to the students the huge plastic removal from the Oasi, when it was established, and discussing with them about the impact of single use plastic and climate change on permanent and migratory birds.
The short film was performed with a friendly participation of Walter Nestola actor (from Salento), who interpreted the manager of the multinational and Lorenzo Andreaggi actor (from Florence) in the role of Marketing Consultant; the videomakers Vincenzo Stellone (from Palermo) and Caterina Ciabatti (from Prato) and the Digital Art Director RAI Giorgio Capaci (from Ferentino) supervisor of the video that provided a lot of precious editing tips.
“Was praiseworthy that the actors, the video makers and the Digital Art Director accepted immediately to collaborate showing a great enthusiasm and professionalism”- says the Director Maria Vittoria Cangialosi.
