It is always a privilege to visit an artist's studio or workshop. Anyway you come out enriched and in the case of Carla Tolomeo ... it's a certainty.
Thanks to Vaifro Minoretti for the photos of the latest creations of this great artist and to Carla Tolomeo for her time and the material.
Below we report a short interview with Contini Arte of which we also attach the video.

I was born in Pinerolo in the province of Turin, the birthplace of the Italian Cavalry and my dad was a cavalry officer.
My childhood took place in a country house with so many horses around, so many animals and this we say somehow influenced me, because the animal continues to be a very important element in everything I do.
As life is for many officers abroad and in Italy, we roamed and we arrived as far as Rome.
My studies were absolutely regular and I was also a good student.
I got my degree, applied for a diplomatic position and was offered a job in the Secretariat of the Embassy in Syria.
My father at this point rather than allowing me to go to Syria, reminded me of my love for painting and from that moment on, I had the go-ahead.
I am completely self-taught.
Except for those years where I was in De Chirico’s studio where I watched, I learned by watching: the Maestro taught you nothing, he created and I watched.
Perhaps through watching I learned more than if I had taken a thousand lessons.
He gave me so much.

Let’s remember that in those years, Roma was a magical city full of artists.
There was Guttuso, Gentilini, Attardi, Vespignani; there was Angeli… all of the great artists in the history of Contemporary art and who have undoubtedly influenced me.
When finally I was only painting, exhibitions were held in Roma and Milano.
In Milano I held an important exhibition at Palazzo Reale; later I was called to London where I was offered a handsome contract which however would have required me to remain in London and this was something I could not do; I had a family in Italy and I needed to be there for them.
Having to give up this contract caused me such suffering, that I quit painting, as if it had been a betrayal to my art.
It was momentary and later I resumed painting, however for a certain period I refused to go to my studio; I stayed home with my mother and the idea of the chairs was born there.

This has been my studio for ten years: I arrive il the morning around eight-thirty and I leave in the evening around seven.
My entire life is centered here.
I can design, paint, listen to music, make ceramics, dedicate time to my chairs and every room, every corner of this studio has a purpose.
There’s the room where I think, there’s the room where I paint, there’s the room where I design and there’s the room where I construct my beloved chairs, after a long creative process and assemblage.
This studio was conceived as a residence, but I don’t actually live here; I would like to, but I have a home full of memories and every now and then, I need to return.
However, my real life is here”.
